The Second Annual Healthy Girl Festival attracted over 700 people and raised awareness of the value of educating girls around the world. It was a day of fun and learning, with hundreds of girls and their moms exploring ways to be healthy in body, mind and spirit. It was a great expression of Laguna Beach Girl Power!
Theme for 2014
Our theme for 2014, educating girls to change the world, was important and topical. Inspired by the phenomenal story of Afghani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, and beautifully illustrated in the feature film Girl Rising, it is both inspirational and a call to action. This is something that all girls can relate to, as they contemplate the differences between their lives, and the lives of girls in other parts of the world, and the opportunities they have here in Laguna Beach that we may sometimes take for granted.
Continuous Screenings of Girl Rising
Girl Rising is a groundbreaking feature film about the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to transform societies. More than 200 attendees saw all or part of this incredible film, and learned first hand about the lives of girls around the world. It used powerful storytelling to deliver a simple, critical truth: Educate Girls and you will Change the World.
We closed the gap between awareness and action last year, through a collaboration with the UN Foundation’s Girl Up campaign. They provided interactive opportunities to experience the reality of being a girl in other parts of the world.
Back by Popular Demand!
Shaena Stabler was again the emcee on the outdoor stage, the all girls band, Yours Truly performed, there was interactive Public Art Projects and the festival grounds was packed with inspiration, ideas, energy and Laguna Girl Power!
